Since I plan on being close to home for a while, and due to the fact that I want to have conversations that extend beyond Minnesota or the Midwest, I’m kicking off a new series on classic styles of beer. Every few days I’ll highlight one category of ale or lager.
I will be using the Beer Judging Certification Program guidelines to do this because that sort of formula really helps me (BJCPG for short). They list everything from American Lagers to Imperial Stouts. Most of the categories have multiple subcategories, so I can’t promise I’ll cover everything but I’ll sure try. (And no, there will be no mead consumed. Sorry to disappoint!)

My hope is to taste things that are classic examples as well as way-out-there selections, ideally that are widely available.
Please speak up if you have examples that I should try for any of the categories. This will be an ongoing, fluid type of thing, but I will make an attempt to go in order. And also, if you think I don’t do one category justice, speak up!
I’m really looking forward to this!
No Mead!? WHYYYYYYYYY!!!??? T-T
Lol, kidding of course. Wouldn’t really know what to suggest, as I don’t know what you plan on specifically covering. All I can say is just don’t forget the Lambics (true Lambic, not just the fruit flavored, though those can be covered too) and Belgian Sours!
I love Lambics! P.S. I struggled through a Miller Lite tonight in the name of good writing.
-gasps, puts hand on your shoulder and offers tissue in comfort- it’s alright… you can get through this… much like how fast it probably went through your system. I’m sorry you have to go through such ordeals -wipes away a tear-
And me too, I just got my dad a Lambic over Christmas, again not the fruit but the… think is it Cuvee they call it? Haven’t tried the regular style before, so I’m looking forward to openin it with him.
